Moorea Hotel Renovations – Completed 2010

Moorea InterContinental Resort & Spa Renovation

The Moorea InterContinental Resort & Spa recently underwent an extensive renovation program that lasted approximately six months. With upgraded bungalows and common areas, the Moorea InterContinental Resort & Spa is is now among the most luxurious hotels in all of French Polynesia.

The renovation program included the following improvements:

Overwater Bungalows

  • Expanded terraces to 227 square feet (21 square meters) to include lounge chairs and a covered dining area
  • Added a sun deck, a separate platform used for direct access to the water, to each overwater bungalow


Beach Bungalows

  • Expanded terraces to 172 square feet (16 square meters), big enough to accommodate two lounge chairs; two sides of the terrace are lined by a bench with a backrest for additional seating
  • Added a covered Fare Potee, which can be used to have breakfast or other meals

Garden Bungalows

  • Expanded terraces to include lounge chairs and a covered dining area
  • Added a private swimming pool to each garden bungalow

Swimming Pool Renovation Plan

  • Re-designed the entire central area of the hotel, including the construction of a new “infinity” swimming pool with expanded seating capacity and a swim-up pool bar
  • The new pool has picturesque views of the lagoon and improved access to the beach
  • The old swimming pool has been filled in and converted into a terrace in front of the restaurant

Other Improvements

  • Brand-new outside furniture for the pool area and bungalows, including lounge chairs and dining sets
  • Replaced all TV sets in the bungalows with flat-screen TVs
  • Constructed dedicated facilities for the Moorea Turtle Clinic, including laboratory space, educational facilities, and office space
  • Upgraded and improved fire security system
